The Taiwan Pavilion at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale will run June 4 to Nov. 23 in the Palazzo delle Prigioni. Showcasing various aspects of life in Taiwan, the pavilion is making its eighth appearance at the event in Italy. “Township of Domestic Parts: Made in Taiwan,” an installation presented by local architect Jimenez Lai, will be a pavilion highlight. It comprises nine small houses each with a different focus. The pavilion is organized by National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts under the ROC Ministry of Culture.


Taiwan Yuan-Li Handiwork Association won a bronze medal at the international design competition Muji Award 04 in April. The association’s winning piece, a rush curtain, was selected among 4,824 submissions from 49 countries. Established in 2009, the Miaoli County-based association specializes in weaving rush chair seats and other related items. It works with young talent and experienced artisans, along with the ROC Council of Agriculture, to revitalize the local rush weaving industry.


The 2014 Taipei Tourism Expo is being hosted May 23-26 at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall No. 1. Attracting 600 exhibitors from home and abroad at 1,200 booths, the event features luxury and budget travel packages for popular destinations such as Bali, Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand, as well as theme trips to amusement parks.
